A car with only 48000 miles should not have a complete transmission failure with all the lost time and headaches that go with it.

Camry LE 3.2L

I purchased a NEW 2015 Toyota Camry and have about 130,000 KM's on it. Recently I am experiencing a shudder between 45 & 70 KM's which feels like a torque converter issue. I changed the transmissions fluids as soon as the issued occurred at 120,000K. I read a lot of blogs where the 2012 and other years had a recall on this issue and wondering when they plan on actually fixing it once and for all. I saw this site, wondering if my problem is an isolated case or are there others with the same issue. Can't believe a 2 year old Toyota has a TC issue.

Camry XLE

I'd like to complain about my 2015 Toyota Camry XLE. I don't feel like the shifter is a very safe in this model. I had a nerve racking incident the other day while my kids and there cousins were in the car. I was parallel parking on an incline. I tried to put the car into drive and my car rolled back. I thought, wow, this must be quite an incline. I checked to make sure I was in gear, but nothing was visible on my gear shift or on the dash digitally. I put one foot on the break and one on the gas to ease into what was hopefully still drive, and the car rolled back after I took my foot off of the brake. I paused for a little bit, getting really nervous because now I am so close to the car behind me. I try and 'gun it' and my car hit the bumper of the car behind me. I put the car in park and e-brake, and asked my 11 year old nephew to check which gear the car was in, if he could differentiate the color indicator and he said no. But wait, if you cup your hand around it, he could see the 'P' for park. After the incident, and experimenting now, if the sun is really glaring, you can't see the indicators of the gear, the car dash digitally only shows the gears for about a second,(which is why my eye didn't go to the dash during the incident I suppose. Having which gear you are in show up on the dash would be helpful to keep in view on the dash when in any other gear than drive. I was pretty sure I was in drive that day, yet the engine sounded like it was in Neutral. I feel like I don't trust driving in my car any more as I was pretty shaken up and frustrated. I'm not sure if there were transmission problems, and/or inferior delineation of gears on the shifter and dash. Needless to say, there is a nail hole in my rear bumper from the ladies front license plate I hit. Fortunately she was really nice and did not press charges. It appears someone in Texas had a similar incident in looking at this website. 😒

Update from Jun 29, 2016: Today I experienced another transmission issue. Today I was in a flat parking lot. I reversed and came to a dead stop before shifting into Drive. My car rolled back for 2 seconds before it engaged into Drive. Fortunately no one was behind me. I called the Toyota dealership and they told me they can't get my car serviced until 6 days from now. I told them it is still under warranty and a huge safety issue. They connected me to their Service Manager. I asked if they can look at my car today or at least provide me with a loaner car. He also said no. I said, can't you push back oil changes and see my car sooner as it is a huge safety concern. He could not. This is very frustrating! Not like they said, take it to another dealership and they would foot the bill. Nope, no other solutions. I'm still waiting for Toyota 1-800-327-4236 to get them on the phone. We've been playing phone tag, and I have waited 30 min once, 15 min another time, and no one ever answers. I'm not sure I will ever purchase a Toyota ever again!

The computer controlled shifting is very slow and troublesome.Accelerating as in older vehicles, the shift and go response takes so long that it shifts down two gears (3 Sec.) then screams at 5K-RPMs to redline to go. If you are looking for a commuter car in stop and go traffic, do not buy this car. This new design does not drive or shift like older cars, so do not expect it. Slow and slower is the only mode for this car.

Camry XLE 2.5L 4-cyl Dohc 16v

  • Automatic transmission

The first incident occurred on Tuesday June 9, 2015 at about 4:00 pm. The car was parked in a parking lot. Off for about 2 hours before.

Driver started the car and backed up out of the parking slot. Drove forward to exit the parking lot.Stopped dead to be able to move into traffic.

Inched forward to see better. Went to accelerate into traffic and nothing happened. (Driver did not notice an engine noise as in a higher RPM) Driver checked gear shift and it was still in Drive. Driver put the car in Park, Drive, Park, Drive to try to get into forward; on giving the car gas this time the car went in reverse (luckily no accident) Repeated the Park, Drive, Park, Drive and on giving it gas this time it went forward.
