I have been a loyal Toyota fan for the last 24 years. In that time I have owned a 1993 Corolla, 1994 Pickup, 1996 Tacoma, 1999 Corolla, 2000 Tundra, 2004 Solara, 2010 Camry, 2013 Venza, 2015 Camry and most recently a 2017 Tacoma.

On Wednesday, June 21, 2017 my wife was in Michigan driving home from work and noticed that her floor was soaked in her Camry. She called me and I naturally called the nearest Toyota dealership, Suburban Toyota of Farmington Hills, and made an appointment for the following morning. After removing the seats, carpet, padding, etc., they find black mold. The service advisor told me that the culprit was a drainage tube was not connected properly. This tube runs under the carpet to a plug that is supposed to drain outside the vehicle. Dennis, the service manager, said that I need to contact my insurance company because it is considered "flooding". I asked this guy is it possible that during assembly it was never connected. (I purchased the car in Arizona and we see very little rain/ humidity so this would not be noticed until the car was exposed to a damper climate like Michigan). He said "no". Keep in mind it has been raining a lot for the last couple weeks. So I called Toyota Corporate and was told that they could not warranty this as a "part did not fail". Last Friday I called my insurance. Today, June 29th, my adjuster tells me they probably will not cover it because it does look like the part was not properly connected.

So, IF Toyota were to repair this, it sounds like they will only dry parts out, vacuum and hand the car back to me. The insurance estimate is a lot more because they want padding and carpet replaced, not just cleaned. Who is at fault ? I think Toyota wants to shift the responsibility. Apparently, Toyota doesn't value loyalty as much as they say they do. I'm speaking with a lawyer tomorrow.

Does anyone have any other ideas ?

Whenever it rains, water leaks into the door frames and sills, the hood and trunk. Have to hand dry, otherwise expect it will eventually cause buildup of dirt and rust.
