This is a personal preference. I found the fan knob also controls the AC. When you turn on the fan, it often turns on the AC as well even though you may think the fan knob is already off the AC position. I can see Toyota is not putting much of thought into cars any more.
Update from Jun 3, 2014: No soluton. Just a compromize. Just have to live with max AC instead.
