When starting the car cold, it is practically impossible to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. It typically takes several tries and quite a bit of force to get it into gear. The colder the weather, the worse it is. Sometimes when I'm sitting at a red light, I'll hold the clutch in and push the gear shift repeatedly from 1st to 2nd and that seems to "loosen" it up some. Once the car warms up, it shifts normally. I took the car to the dealer and they had it overnight (when the weather was cold) and said the problem is due to the viscosity of the gear oil. I also had them look at the gear shift lever for any defects but they found none. When I asked, they said it was a "common issue" with drivers of this model with manual transmission. I feel it is a safety issue because there are times I am starting out (entering an intersection) and cannot get my car into 2nd gear. Is anyone else having this problem, or can you recommend something I should have checked out?
