CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

I bought my car in October 2009. I did not discover until years later that the pistons for the 2009 Toyota Camry Le did not fit correctly. This caused oil consumption problems, but it did not start happening until a 3-year warranty and at about 60-70 thousand miles. I did not get a notice of recall notice of Toyota's resolution to the problem, because they had the wrong apartment number and email address which I was told by Rep. Sherry and Rose at Toyota Corporation. Rep. said she was sending information to higher up at the corporation instead she sending it to the dealership. I did not get notice of a class action suit/resolution, trotter body, or melting dashboard. I have paid at least $6-7 thousand to dealerships workmanship is bad. I need help!! Because I did not get notices Toyota should fix and compensate me for repairs. Also, they replaced my hold break system because they assumed the shrieking noise was the break. This was done without my permission. I had to replace the axle they replaced less than a year ago. I am frustrated. I can not pay out any more money. My car stopped working on [XXX] I had to have it told to the dealership in Mamaroneck. Rep Sherry told me the trotter body is on recall until 2026, dealership is saying no. I can be reached at [XXX]. With Toyota T-sb-0094-11, Toyota acknowledges that they have a problem with oil consumption in a handful of car models. They have set the bar high in order to get the repair covered, either under the normal or extended warranty. The problem gets worse as time goes on, so most cars will not experience issues until they are near or passed their warranty mileage. A series of oil consumption tests is required, but in my experience, they do not make sure the oil is not over full. I have had two tests thus far, and both times they have overfilled my oil by ~0.5 quarts.

I had a online appointment with Toyota of vacaville at 0:930 at vacaville ca and I dropped off the vehicle and was told it would be ready at lunch. I came to pick up at 13:30 and it was not ready. They did not fix the urgent recall. Too busy selling oil changes and tire changes. Took car home at 13:30 please investigate if selling out serves fixing recalls I now just want a refund after this. They don't care if my car suddenly accelerate they just want to sell service. I hope and this is why I am writing this my car doesn't suddenly do this and injury kids and stuff but my feeling from the dealer at vacaville is that selling products is what they do.

On Wednesday, 2/16/11, at 4:50 P.M. I was traveling down sudbury street in boston, MA to make a right hand turn onto congress street in boston. I came down the hill and stopped at a red traffic light. My car, for no apparent reason, began to race and would not stop. I applied more pressure to the brake and shifted the car into park. It continued to race for 5-10 seconds after I did this. This was a very frightening incident, given there was a stopped vehicle in front of me, a vehicle behind me and many pedestrians at that hour. I no longer feel secure with the car and am anticipating that this may re-occur at any time. Updated 1/13/2012

While parking and depressing the brakes, the car accelerated like a rocket and jumped over the parking curb onto the road with two way traffic. I had no control over the car. Within a few seconds the car flew across the road and hit a fence and was stopped only when it fell into a ditch by the railroad tracks. Luckily the car did not turn over. Surprisingly, the air bags did not deploy. I kept hitting the breaks and when the car stopped my foot was still on the brake.

I have a 2009 Toyota Camry. I purchased it in 2008. It started shaking/vibrating every time you come to a stop light one year after I purchased it. I took it to the Toyota dealer twice (once to have the oil changed and again because the vibration was so bad) and they proceeded to tell me it is because the air filter and fuel line filter needed to be changed & cleaned out. It would cost me almost $500. The car was only a year old. I was wondering if this is the same problem that they noticed with the current corolla recall? we had the 2 air filters changed & it still continues to shake. Some times so violently that you can see your hand on the steering wheel vibrating and the rear view mirror is blurred.

2009 Toyota Camry, ac smell like a rotten egg. Online search shows that many car owners have this issue. This smell is so intense that car can not be driven w/O windows open. It gives head-ache and hard to bear with it. This issue should have been identified as a major issue requiring recall since we may end-up spending more money on health issues associated with it. Impact of this on economy due to loss of working day and productivity can not ignored.

I have a 2009 Toyota Camry, I was driving it to ocean city md when all of the sudden my car stalls I started it again and it started but started to make a really loud pinging noise and stalled out again. So I look under the car and there is a really big puddle of oil. I towed it to Toyota so they could tell me what was wrong with it. Turns out a rod of some kind came lose and went thru my oil panel which drained out all the oil in turn making my engine seize up because it was getting no oil. Toyota wont fix it because I was late on some oil changes and got the last one done by somebody else. And they say it could have been cause the oil was low but that's impossible!
