CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the brake pedal had to be depressed with extreme pressure in order to stop the vehicle. In addition, the ABS and brake light indicators intermittently illuminated. The contact further stated that the speedometer gauge decreased to zero, the thermostat lever went to cold, and the tachometer fluctuated to zero. The vehicle was taken to legacy Toyota (3800 w Tennessee St, tallahassee, fl 32304, (888) 610-8309) where it was diagnosed that the ABS control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the rpms began to rapidly increase and the speedodometer fluctuated with inaccurate readings. In addition, the ABS warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred twice and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times. The second visit, the dealer provided an incorrect diagnosis and the third time they informed the failure was contributed to the ABS computerized system. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
