CarComplaints.com Notes: Owners are reporting that their engines are running out of oil awfully quick. As in, 1 quart every 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains that’s with the “normal” operating range of the 2AZ-FE while owners maintain that’s complete BS.

The issue may be the result of defective piston rings.

I had the car fully serviced June of 2015. Have oil changed and I've maintained my upkeep on the car. I have the paperwork to prove it. Bought the car in 2011 and noticed when I have the oil changed, I have to add oil at least 2 times before the next oil change. my mechanic could never find anything wrong with it. I was driving on the expressway and when I got off on my exit the car starting jerking and sputtering as if it was out of gas, about 4 more blocks and the car shut off. I was able to restart and go one more block. I heard a noise under the hood and the car cut off again, I coasted into a warehouse to see what the problem was. When I got out, white steam was coming from under the hood. When I lifted the hood and checked the oil there was none on the dip stick now. I had just had the oil changed 2 months prior and I always check my oil on Sundays because my job is 20 miles from my house so I check the oil and antifreeze every week. I had the sputtering and shut off problem before and when I would take it to the mechanic he could find nothing wrong with it. This time I could not start the car, had to have it towed home. have not had time to have it towed to shop, but I think I'm going to need an engine or exhaust manifold because when I did put some oil in it leaked out the exhaust manifold.

This is a continuation of a previous post..... (in order to log ALL complaints)

Mid- April: In the car again, after work, with my daughter. Engine light randomly turns on and in RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC my car starts doing this: We are stopped, the car in front of me goes, I try to go and boom. It's like my car is in neutral. I'm revving to 5-6 RPMS and moving like a snail so I pull off into a neighborhood and frantically call my husband. As I pull into a driveway to attempt to turn around, my car stalls and dies. I wait about 5 minutes, start it back up, it starts but is doing the SAME EXACT THING. Luckily I am close enough to our home that I am able to get home and park it on the street.

AAA tows it the next morning to Toyota. Toyota FINALLY finds the problem! It's the main computer they say, when the battery died last there was some sort of misfire between the two which is why your car keeps dying. Okaaaaay. This time I am not holding my breath.

Final complaint of a previous post...

Most recent time this has happened- May 13th, 2014:

I am at work and get a call from our daycare that my daughter has an 102 degree fever. I grab my things, make a doctor appointment for her and leave work. I pick her up and we are on the way for a doctor appointment. About halfway there, again in rush hour, my engine light goes on. I inwardly groan. Nothing seems awry as I'm driving but then I have to stop at a light. I stop, the light turns green, the car acts the same as mentioned in other examples: revving, barely moving, stalling and dying. In the middle of traffic- luckily I was wiser this time and had already pulled into a median. I wait, turn car on, it starts but is still acting as if it is in neutral and I am forcing it to drive. I pull over and wait for husband, we call AAA to get it towed to dealership, end up taking it to a different place because our guy wasn't at Toyota and... drum-roll??? Nothing. They also cannot find anything wrong with it.

RECALL THIS CRAP MODEL! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A TOYOTA TO ANYONE EVER AGAIN NOR WILL I PURCHASE FROM TOYOTA. SHAME ON THEM FOR KEEPING A BUNK MODEL ON THE MARKET- KNOWING THERE ARE ENGINE ISSUES. SHAME ON YOU.
