CarComplaints.com Notes: Owners are reporting that their engines are running out of oil awfully quick. As in, 1 quart every 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains that’s with the “normal†operating range of the 2AZ-FE while owners maintain that’s complete BS.
I have owned the car since 2010. I did all the maintence that it called for. Had the pistons changed about 4 years ago because of the oil consumption problem. Had a complete tune up about 4 months ago and then 2 weeks ago had the whole muffler system done. Now today I take it to the mechanics and he tells he that it looks like someone put a whole bottle of glitter in my engine because it is full of metal shavings. Tells me for a used engine with 83,000 miles on it will be 4,712 to fix. Not sure that it is worth the fix for a used motor after this motor went. This was my first toyota, I thought if I took care of it that it would last longer.
I just bought my Camry in January. I drove to Florida in March with no problem. There was no sign that the engine was faulty until it stopped. The first repair person said it was the timing without looking inside the engine. The second auto mechanic opened the engine and found part of it melted. You can see it in the pictures if you look up-close.
