CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

The dash on the vehicle has become extremely shiny and sticky. It makes driving hazardous when driving in the sun. We are concerned about any impact on the passenger side airbag.

Whie driving the dashboard is very reflective and blinding. This is because of the stickiness substance. It needs to be replaced. I have not had a accident but I don't use the car during the day time because the sun is always out shiny in Texas where I reside and I don't want to have a accident.

The dashboard of my 2007 Toyota Camry is very sticky. While driving I receive a glare on my eyes coming from the dashboard. Very unsafe to drive. I read many complaints of Camry owners about this issue. My car is always garaged so it receive less exposure to the sun.

My dashboard has a sticky film and when sunlight is present it's hazardous to see. This has been an ongoing concern with Toyota cars between 2007-2009. I contacted Toyota for general information for replacement on 26 Oct 19. According to a Toyota rep on 1 Nov 19, recall notices were sent to registered owners by reaching out through their local mva in the state of Maryland. All vehicles I ever owned were always registered but I never received a correspondence from the Toyota. Now the recall has expired and I'm responsible should I want to make the repair and no other resolutions. This what I received from Toyota after being a loyal customer.

My safety issue is the melting rubber dashboard issue becoming sticky, shiny and reflecting a glare reducing and blinding my visibility when driving. I purchased in 2016 a used Toyota Camry le from a used car dealership. In summer 2018 I noticed the dashboard was tacky to the touch. I asked at a car supplies and parts store if they knew what caused this but no one could help me. I asked carmax one time about this and told it must me something I put on the car which I had not. Then this summer 2019 the dashboard became so sticky and shiny with melting rubber and glare so blinding it reduces my view of the road and now is very dangerous to drive in any bright sunshine or oncoming car headlights. On 10-13-2019 while driving I turned a curve on a busy road and was completely blinded by glare and narrowly missed hitting an oncoming car. I keep a clean car and all glass so this is not a buildup on the glass. On 10-14-2019 I began online research and found there had indeed been a problem so I went directly to Toyota customer care and emailed this problem and requested assistance. I then spoke with a customer care person that advised me there was a special extended warranty program but that program had expired August 2017 and there was nothing they would do. I expressly inquired how could they know they have a dangerous situation in cars and offer no assistance. They said they went to each states dmv to get address of Toyota owners of affected cars and mailed them. I explained I bought this car in 2016 and what do they offer to make my car safe. I got only apologies. This is evidently a known and long term safety problem with Toyota cars and is at a dangerous level for many owners of used Toyota's with no corrective steps available.

Dashboard on 2007 Toyota Camry xle is melting. Noticed several months back that it was tacky to the touch and seemed to get worse as the weather heated up. Glare is becoming more of a problem, specifically on hot sunny days, melting dashboard put a small gouge in the dashboard when something was set on it and then moved. Debris and dust is also collecting on the dashboard. Will become more hazardous as time goes on. Called both Toyota and the dealership. Toyota informed me that my vehicle was not on recall list and too wait to see if another recall would be issued. Dealership wants to charge over $2,000 for part and labor. I have kept my car in the garage and dashboard has seemed a little slower to deteriorate compared to others, but now that it is breaking down, will most likely decline quicker. A problem created by Toyota also affects resale and trade in value of the vehicle at no fault of the owner.

There was originally a recall on the 2007 Toyota Camry that had a warranty to replace the melting dashboard. The melting dashboard is a safety hazard due to the glare that it produces. The car owner should not be made responsible for an error Toyota created. My complaint is that a recall warranty should never expire for someone who paid for a vehicle with expectations that there would be no issues.

...form # 3 request #215013 chat transcript (E-mail)the Toyota sticky dashboard lawsuit was filed in the U.S. district court for the district of South Carolina - wendy george V. Toyota motor Corp., et al. The plaintiff was represented by richardson, patrick, westbrook & brickman, llc. Says it will take about 16 years to repair the vehicles on the dealer waiting list. By that time the vehicles would likely "be out of use"!!!!!!!!!!!! there was also lawsuit filed by melissa graham, the owner of a 2009 Toyota Camry. That lawsuit, melissa graham V. Toyota motor Corp., et al., was dismissed after Toyota announced the warranty program. Because this was not a recall Toyota motor corporation is refusing to replace the sticky dashboard resulting from heat of summer and winter heating which causes eye, throat and lung irritation, clouding, glare of windshield and eyeglasses. The clock mounted on the dashboard has a cloud over the plastic cover making it almost impossible to read as well as plastic cover over dome lights. I brought all of this to the attention of service advisor prior to the Toyota warranty enhancement which ended May 2017, however the service advisor told me it was not a known issue, did not record the issue and suggested whatever I used to clean the dash, clock and dome light created the problem. My question, what is it going to take to make Toyota motor corporation take responsibility of this health and safety hazard? perhaps another class action suit now that it is well documented dealers are reselling these vehicles with the dashboard defect and denying replacement due to May 2017 expiration date to those of us still driving these vehicles.no manufacturer should be allowed to deny liability for a defect that is clearly a health and safety hazard. I also explained repeatedly to service director and customer service numerous invalid warranties were received

#1 08/19/19 request #215013 chat transcript (E-mail)N, DC 2059highway #traffic S I requested an email for this communication and was denied but directed to complete the online form. Aug 9 2019, I communicated via email with fred anderson Toyota jeff demeyer | service director 803.796.6650 jdemeyer@anderson-auto.net regarding sticky melting dashboard of my approx. 57,000 mi 2007 Camry. His reply " Toyota motors North America will not allow a dealer to perform any warranty extensions after they have expired. My advise would be to call Toyota motors at (800)331-4331 and start a case seeking replacement of the dash. If approved, they will notify us with an authorization # and we can proceed with the replacement"Aug 10 2019, spoke with customer service representative (susan) @ Toyota motors at (800)331-4331 regarding dash replacement approval. Service request denied!! of course they have no record of my ever discussing this matter with an advisor prior to the warranty notification. To paraphrase the customer service representative "to provide an exception for one customer would mean the exception to be provided to all customers", we have parameters in place which does not allow repair beyond the warranty enhancement expiration date".I have reviewed the complaints @ Toyota motor corporation customer care service. A consumer posted a complaint July 2O 2019 regarding his 2007 Camry, "I just purchased this car two weeks ago and noticed within a couple of days a glare on the windshield that not only caused a problem with being able to see through the windshield at on coming traffic but it also caused a headache from straining to see. Upon further investigation, I noticed the dash was extremely sticky, finally realizing the dash was literally melting! this is a terrible liability! this car only had 138, 000 miles when I purchased it and should still be eligible....form #2

I have Toyota Camry 2007 and I live in North Texas. I wanted to clean my dashboard once in summer and I saw that it's coming off and it's sticky and I could see my fingernail prints on the dashboard and even while driving it easily gets dented by my nails. Bugs and dust get attached to it, and there is no way for me to remove them which is a health hazard. Also, its reflect on the wind shield specially in sunny days, which is almost everyday in Texas, blocks my eye sight and I hardly can see passengers or traffic signs which is really dangerous. After some readings I found that it's a common problem and there was a recall that I missed. I emailed Toyota and filed a complaint, but I got disregarded. I called and you told me that the warranty of your car has been expired which was May 2017. I bought the car in October 2016 and by May 2017 there was no summer or hot weather. I never got any email or notice from Toyota about this issue. Toyota told me you must pay for that by yourself. I am just a student and cannot either afford replacing the dashboard or changing my car. It's been almost a year since I have been struggling with this issue and I could not find a real solution for my melting dashboard. The maker should stand behind their products with such issues.
