CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.
Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.
Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal†amount of oil.

Car alarm goes off and I go outside assuming some one is trying to break in. It's cold and dark outside and the car is secure.
...Alarm goes off a second time so I get in and drive around the corner. A light comes on saying HOOD IS OPEN ... Of course the hood is not open and I pull over to check it anyway. The Hood, Trunk, Gas Cap... I opened and closed everything ... I get back home and lock the door , only for this piece of s)_ to go off again.
...Neighborhood is quiet , so now this poorly Engineered Design feature in my Toyota is disturbing the neighbors. I took it to TOYOTA BURLINGTON NC ...and the solutions as always is to replace the sensor ...The sensor $360... I said no, disable the alarm system ...I'm tired of replacing parts because of poor design. ... 2 1/2 hours later they disabled the hood sensor and it was still going off when I arrived home ... I had to leave the key in the ignition and the doors unlocked overnight to stop the alarm from going off. I will do more research before purchasing a new vehicle. This may be the last Toyota for me.
...Luxury my ass.
