CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.
Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.
Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal†amount of oil.

I bought my new Toyota Camry in June 2007. Just after the 3-year warranty was up I began having problems with random no-starting and having to be jumped off. Toyota dealer could find no problems except "bad battery" and replaced it. A month later, problems again and battery replaced again. Few months later, problems again. Don't even know how many times this car has had to be jumped over the course of the next 5 years. Another dealer kept the car for a month and only found bad alternator which he said would fix my problem. A few days after the alternator was installed, car would not start, had to be jumped every day for a week. The alternator DID NOT fix the problem. Dealer suggested I have the car towed to them, at their expense, and they would find the problem. All they did was put on yet another new battery. After a year and 3 months, the car fails to start again and had to be jumped. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I believe it has to be something electrical that is not shutting down and draining the battery. I am a woman so no one pays any attention to me, all they want to do is put on new batteries. I am at the end of my rope and ready to get rid of this lemon. I only have 60K miles on this car.
