CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.
Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.
Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal†amount of oil.

I own a 2007 Toyota Camry SE (V6), automatic sedan. Since purchasing my Camry I have had nothing but problems. It was a dealership demo with approximately 11,000 miles on it when purchased. This was the very first Toyota. At the time I thought I was purchasing a high quality, reliable vehicle... I was proven wrong and I will never purchase another Toyota (Lexus / Sion) product ever again! In addition to a long list of other issues I've had with my Camry, I am not having the same issues as another post on this site - what is described is exactly what is going on with my Camry so I am copy parts of the other person's post -
My vehicle is having intermittent erratic problems with the instrument control panel: The ABS and emergency brake lights come on. The tachometer & speedometer gauges bounce up and down, the thermometer changes the temperature read out from a number to "E" and the light showing I am in "D" - Drive turns off.
When the car is having an episode with the instrument control panel my AC stops working! The events last for a few seconds to ten minutes, episodes occur sporadically and the car continues to drive normally during the events even though I have no clue what speed I am going! Per the other person's post it is a very serious problem, one that can cause your brakes to lock up!!! Myself or anyone else driving a Camry with the same issues is basically driving a ticking time bomb!!! I have previously contacted Toyota Corp for another major issue I was having.
Toyota only offered me $400.00 toward the $2,500 repair! I have already put thousands of dollars into the vehicle! I take care of my Camry - ALL maintenance and necessary repairs have been completed! ALL ignition coils on all 6 cylinders have had to be replaced, one of my other computers went out, multiple O2 sensors have gone bad, my list goes on and on! Toyota Corp is a greedy, heartless company. They are a company that refuses to take responsibility for the terrible quality of the vehicles manufactured in the past 7 - 8 years!
