CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.
Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.
Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal†amount of oil.

I just purchased this 2007 Camry from a car dealership. Very nice car low miles well taken care of. I checked the car out very well I thought. These cars bring a premium price. While test driving noticed dash cover lifted it up looked for cracks looked fine. Later on that day bought car. While waiting for someone to drive my other vehicle home thought didn't like dash cover and decided to take it off. Mistake! dash was so sticky like you spray adhesive on it. The dash cover has small velcro strips on stuck to dash which while attempting to remove took piece of dash with it. Went into dealership explained situation to sales rep and they fixed hole. Asked why dash sticky he did not know. On a hot sunny day better have dark sunglasses on for the glare from dash is a distraction. Dash puts off a odor when hot and sticky. I put cover back on dash it helps some. I should of did more research on 2007 Camry because a lot of people are having same issue. There is no solution other than a new dash which Toyota so far will not pay for. Toyota needs to save their reputation because I will never buy another Toyota !
My dashboard has a sticky film on it that causes it to be shiny and causes the sun to reflect in my eyes while driving. This is a problem on many 2007 Camry's. I quick google searched turned up many pages of complaints.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that during hotter weather, the dashboard would become soft and sticky. The dealer advised the contact to cover the dashboard with a sunshield to prevent the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000 was and the current mileage was 69,599.
Over the past several years, I have noticed my dashboard is overly hot in high temps. (I live in sw Florida). Today, the dashboard is sticky, very hot, shiny in spots, and now filled with small chunks from Y fingernail hitting it. I can't clean it as the rag will stick. This is obviously a material defect that the maker used. No where in my owners manual or contract did it state that the dashboard will become much after 6 years, and the car should only be used in the colder states. I use four layers of house insulation and a sun visor. Nothing helps, as this problem is aggravated by high temperatures. I am told this is a $1,000 dashboard and I will have to pay for labor to get it replaced. Really/ how unacceptable. Again, no where in my contract did it state that just over warranty expiration, the dash would melt. And how does this affect the passengers airbag" and the glare from the sun on the dash? how can this be safe. How many complaints need to happen before someone interjects" please recall this item and make our vehicles safe. A very unsatisfied customer. (1 of many!).
The dashboard of my Toyota is falling apart. It is a safety hazard as it contains the passenger air bag. Additionally, the glare caused by the shine is very distracting both day and night as sunlight and lights reflect and blind the driver. I believe warranties should cover anything that is a defective part and that's what this is, a defective part, if a part is defective when you manufacturer the car or whether it fails within warranty or out of warranty it shouldn't make any difference." I and other drivers feel the defect is unsafe, and shine a light on the issue with videos taken from their point of view. Now we've learned the safety issues may go even deeper. "because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side I wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash, " explained [xxx]. "anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious." Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
White powder or dust blowing out of air vents of my heating vents in winter and ac vents in summer. Due to that car also smell like dusty etc.. this problem is occurring since last summer, problem persist last summer, winter and now this summer. First time my kids (4 and 3 years old) was riding in my car to grocery store 3 miles from home, they had problem breathing and they are coughing, so I have open my all window, so kids can breathe. I am exhaling that white powder inside me, I am not sure what that powder is, and how it will effect my health in long term. I took my care to 3 different Toyota dealerships and everyone said without open my car that this is known issue with this model.
My 2007 Toyota Camry is very sticky and melting. I went to the dealer and they said they had alot of complaints be there hasn't been a recalled. It is a danger because they glare on the glaring reflections makes in impossible to drive at night. This is a manufacturing defect and it should be replaced.
I have decided to file this complaint due to the fact that Toyota, Inc. Has refused to acknowledge or do anything about the issue. I own a 2007 Toyota Camry xle, which I purchased new in 2006. In 2012, I started noticing some issues with the dashboard. It was very shiny and sticky to the touch. The texture is gummy and will come off in your fingernail if scratched or nicked. I contacted Toyota, who told me to take the vehicle to my dealership, joe meyers Toyota, in houston, tx. I did that and also gave the service manager, [xxx], the link to a youtube site of someone else with the same issue. [xxx] told me that he had never seen that issue but said that he would give me an estimate of the cost (for Toyota's purposes) and someone would be in touch. Toyota, via email, informed me that [xxx], who is the customer relations manager, is the person that I would deal with as far as communication. Well, I waited a couple of weeks and never received a call so I emailed [xxx], who said they were still waiting for a response from Toyota. [xxx] called me a week later and gave me an incident #. a month or so went by and I never heard from anyone. I called [xxx] and never got an answer. I left a couple of messages but never received a return call. I contacted Toyota again and was finally told by someone with the corporate office that Toyota's stance is that it is a warranty issue and if your vehicle out of the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, it will not be covered. This is clearly a manufacturer's defect and the issue doesn't occur until after the original warranty is out. There are hundreds or more of people with this issue. This issue also affects safety due to glaring from the sun on the dash and possibility of airbag interference. I have attached my youtube video. Thank you for your time. www.youtube.com/watch?V=nin0veo8yyo. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Currently, the vehicle's dashboard is partially melted, sticky, and shiny. This shininess causes a glare off the windshield which obstructs my view when driving. I have resorted to using a dashboard cover so as to stop the glare. I have a safety concern since this dashboard cover overlaps over the passenger side airbag.
My dashboard has melted and reflects off my window making it hard to see during the day. I have reported this to my dealership but nothing has been done yet. It is sticky and gooey and I am worried about visibility and what will happen if the airbag deploys.
I would like to file a compliant about my dash melting and being sticky. I love this car and the dash looks horrible. I also had tried cleaning it but then the fuzz just sticks to it, try to keep sunshade in it and it sticks to it, bugs stick to it. Please let me know what I can do about this.
Dashboard is very shiny and when attempted to clean, discovered it was very sticky. Over the years it has spread from the part of the dash closest to the windshield and now includes the entire surface. It's so melted you can take chunks out of it with just your fingernail.and the glare from the shine reflecting off the windshield is blinding at times. I think this is a safety concern that originates from a poorly manufactured part and should be recalled by Toyota.
Melting shiny dashboard. Purchased vehicle in October 2007, and has been garaged and driven minimally ever since. It's about to go for its 30,000 mile service. About a year ago, whenever driving during the daytime, the dashboard seems to "liquefy". it looks like it's slathered in cooking grease and is blindingly reflective. On top of the glaring visibility issues, the dashboard is becoming soft & sticky and who knows what kinds of toxins it's releasing. The dealership says Toyota doesn't acknowledge there's a problem, and it will cost $2100 to replace. Toyota corporate hung up on me. By searching online, I've found hundreds, if not thousands of cases of this, primarily in hot weather climates, mainly with Toyota, Lexus & Nissan vehicles. This is an obvious manufacturing defect. A vehicle is a major purchase, and your car should not "melt". ever. I don't care how old it is, our how much it's been driven. There are many accounts of dealerships quietly replacing dashboards for some customers, or doing so after the press has been contacted. Though the majority report being stonewalled, and being quoted extremely diverse rates for replacing the defective dashboard. I've seen news reports that [xxx], a West palm beach dealership owner has seen so many of these, he's gone to the media, and admitted that this is clearly a manufacturing defect and a safety hazard, and Toyota & other car makers are well aware of the problem, and need to take responsibility for it. The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the visor on the driver's side became stuck in the downward position. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 46,600.
