CarComplaints.com Notes: Beware of the NHTSA complaint data for the 2005 Camry. It is almost certainly misleading.

The problem with NHTSA data for the 2005 Camry is that for months on end, the news media repeatedly told the public that several Toyota models had an unintended acceleration defect, & to go to safercar.gov (the NHTSA's website) to file a complaint.

So, the NHTSA received a disproportionate number of complaints about Toyota unintended acceleration issues because of the national news media attention, to the point where their data is unreliable taken in context with any other vehicle that did not receive national news attention.

CarComplaints.com typically receives more complaints per day about vehicles than the NHTSA does, but the news media did not repeatedly say "go to CarComplaints.com to report your Camry acceleration problems" like they did about the NHTSA -- so although we have less complaint data than the NHTSA for the 2005 Camry, our data for the Camry is a far more statistically accurate representation of the Camry's reliability than what the NHTSA data shows.

2005 Toyota Camry sunroof: Driving down a local road, I heard a "clank", looked in rearview mirror and see this dark rectangle glass dancing on its edge, before smashing into teeny lil pieces. I am so happy that there were NO cars behind me, as I dont know how it could have affected another car or person crossing street.

I purchased this car directly from Al Hendrickson Toyota in July 2005, BRAND NEW, it was in the showroom. Upon the first rain storm, it leaked, and took a few days to dry, I had leather seats, so they were able to be wiped off immediately, this was in July 2005, days after purchasing. I brought it back, they stated they knew nothing about it and I LEFT IT OPENED, however, I DID NOT LEAVE IT OPENED, (by the way it happened twice) after my insistence that they RESEALED/WATERPROOF it they did, since that time I never used it again.

They knew absolutely NOTHING about it, claimed it was NOT a NATIONAL recall. Called the manufacturer WEBASTO, who told us to go to the dealer, which upon calling, stated they "need" to see the car. However, upon reporting to my insurance company, finding out I have a 500 deductible, which wasn't too bad, however, insurance company referred me to Sunroof Express, upon stating, the car I own, the lady on the phone automatically stated that's a RECALL, no cost to you, gave her my VIN and all imperative information, she then transferred me to get a claim number and refer to me to a company nearby to receive the parts. The glass company, had already ordered the parts prior to me calling them, they had all the paperwork, and I had to leave a message, they immediately returned the message (after lunch hour) and I'm on my way to a new Sunroof as soon as they call me.

PS I had also, since the car is 11 years old, gone to a Savage yard, they had 2 sunroofs both for 2005 Toyota Camry, one was genuine Toyota, the other was Webasto, both did not fit the sunroof.

Before running to replace, go on line and check out your vehicle, this seemed to be a GREAT website to report the problems. The company WEBASTO, even looking on site, didnt have a place to type a claim, however upon searching further via sunroofcheck.us, I found the form and it stated DO NOT TAKE TO DEALERSHIP or PLACE OF PURCHASE!!!!!
