This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry equipped with Goodyear assurance comfortred touring tires, size 205/65R15 (na). While driving approximately 45 mph, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. While inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front passenger side tire had a three inch crack present in the sidewall. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Sidewall is bulging - will be returning to dealer (costco). Has not completely failed. Tire is a Michelin mxv4 S8 all season P215/60R16 94V rrbl. Installed 1/10/06. About 10,000 miles of use.
While driving rear passenger side tire blew out. When changing the tire, seven punctured holes were found on the inside sidewall of the tire. Bridgestone Firestone radial tire.
The tires were on the Toyota when purchased. The driver's front tire failed as my wife was driving on the 101 northbound for sun city. There were several large holes in the side wall. The dealer stated that this could be due to low tire pressure. However, the pressure in the tires were checked within the seven days of the tire failure---at least we were told that they had been checked as part of the service we paid for. The full tire size number was P205/65/R15 92T---more numbers than allowed in the previous blank. If low air pressure could cause this type of damage on a tire, then it seems to me that regulations should require greater tolerance in tire pressure. Nlm
