Motor regulators for the windows are failing. Lr regulator castled hinge pin mal-formed and dislodged from the assembly. Power window was then non-functional and window would fall when manually raised up, creating a security issue, and potential weather issue. Power window regulator had to be replaced.
I bought a used 199 Camry two weeks ago. The first week I noticed a problem with the passenger window. It would not roll up or down after having rolled in down and up severeal times. I mentioned to my brother that I had a probelm with my Camry and before I could even state the problem he asked if it was a 1999 Camry and if I had a problem with the window rolling up and down. Apparently his mother had the exact same problem -- but just turned it in at the end of her lease. The dealer says that it is probably the regulator. This seems to be a common problem although there is not recall on this. Dealer says it will cost $400. I am concerned about this problem in the winter ( I live in Wisconsin). There is also a considerable safety and security concern. I am not sure whether I will return the car or get it repaired.
Problem with both front driver and passenger windows coming off track and not going back up all the way. It has been repaired by the local Toyota dealer 4 times.three occurences were covered under warranty and the last occurence the cost was split.
The power windows would not raise or lower when the power window button was pushed from either consoles. The vehicle also experienced problems with the sun roof.

Driver power window came off track and was fixed under warranty. Passenger power window came off track dealer fixed after warranty for cost of $80. Passenger window came off track again fixed by mechanic 1/2 dealer price. Both rear window motors failed and replaced at cost of over $400. Each. Toyota superceded the original part with a new one. Apparently a known defect with no recall. Passenger window came off track once again. Next car may not be Toyota.
Brakes squeak/ pull to left and warp. Also, cd player doesn't work, had 4 cds replaced/ springs in side of sun roof are broken and make noises, and regulator replaced inside of windows. Dealership is aware of problems. Consumer states that brake rotors have been turned at 9000 and 27000 miles, each time rotors are turned the brake pads have been replaced, however problem still occurs. Windshiled has a film like covering which makes it very difficult to see out of. Goodyear tire P205/65R15, dot M6urredr228 wore out prematurely.
The power windows in the front on the driver and passenger sides go off track and will not come down. My dealer said this happens all the time on the 1999 Camry but there has been no recall. This is dangerous in the North East in bad weather. It also makes us vulnerable to a car jacking or theft. My dealer said he fixed but windows but it has happened again. Why doesn't the government order a recall. What happens after my warrenty is over" there is a real design defect with these cars, so why isn't someone doing something about this? what about the hours on end that I must waste waiting for repairs and the lost hours of work. Who is suppose to reimburse me for lost pay"
Driver's side window makes rattling/bumping sounds when opened or closed. Dealer contacted. Claims to have received numerous calls with same complaint for '99 Camry.
