Test drove the car Saturday May 30th 2015, noticed a mildew smell when I first started the car, the salesman said it was due to the carpets being cleaned and with all the rain they haven't been able to dry out yet. Smell went away as the test drive continued. Went back on Monday June1st to purchase the car, made arrangements to come back and pick up the car on Wednesday June 3rd.
June 3rd picked up the car when I turned on the air there was a mildew smell which went away as the drive progressed. The car was not detailed as promised, so I brought back the car again on Saturday to have it detailed (purchased from a Lexus dealership).
The mildew smell continues to be an issue. Took it back to the dealership and the cleaned AC vents and replaced the filters at no charge. The smell was better for 1 day. I spend 3 hours a day in my car driving to and from work in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I now notice that my eyes burn, it's harder to breath (lungs hurt when taking a deep breath) and I get a headache on my drive to and from work.
The mildew smell (dealership call it stinky feet smell, so they know this problem exist) is very strong when the AC is first turned on, but goes away and then a different smell comes into play, it's hard to describe (fumes from engine/battery smell). I'm sure this is not good for me or anyone else driving in my car.
Toyota/Lexus manufacture knows this problem exist and why it occurs (condensation builds up sits and will not drain from tube) but continues to sell defective cars. Buyer beware!!!
FYI this car was not cheap. My previous car was a Mercedes CLK 320, should have bought another Mercedes!
