There has been enough money spent into this engine in the last 30 days to replace it completely. Toyota quality sucks!

Avalon Touring 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission

We have a 2008 Avalon Touring with over 80k miles. On our way to Buena Vista from Colorado Springs in the middle of nowhere, we experienced engine issues and unusual noises. We pulled over in Hartsel and found out we had no engine oil. Added 6 quarts and kept driving to the next town. Since it was Sunday, there was nothing open. Had to keep adding oil to get around. Monday, got it fixed for 300.00. But I am afraid our engine is permanently damaged. The oil light never came on to warn us of low oil. Why in the world didn't Toyota send out a notice to warn customers of this problem. I am pissed and don't know what to do from here.

With no warning, lost all engine oil on highway. Local dealer said that it is a bad oil line and it would take some time to get part form Toyota. You would think that Toyota, the largest car manufacturer would have these parts on hand. Toyota has known about this problem for quite some time so how it is that they have no parts and have not re-engineered a new part? This is a serious issue. Engines will burn. I will be afraid of taking this car on any long trips as I feel it may happen again one day. What if you are hundreds of kilometers from home and there is no part available? What other parts are in short supply? I called Toyota head office and got nowhere!
