Overall, I love my 2007 Avalon, but for the past year & a half, I have been problems with rpm energy surges, and car running rough at speeds 65-75 mph. I've had it checked several times, but each time, no problem is detected. Yesterday, 9/7/15, while driving on I-95 north at 80 mph, my car began to slow down to 60 mph even though I had not physically lowered my speed. I accelerated to regain speed, rpm monitor began to fluctuate, car began to run extremely rough, then continued to slow down. As I began to pull off the road, I noticed smoke coming from rear of car. When I exited the car, smoke was coming from the right side of car, so much that I thought it was going to explode, yet my check engine light never came on. I was terrified. It's 3:18 am and I can't sleep from worry. My car had to be towed in and will be taken to Florence Toyota later this morning. I've driven Toyotas since 1985 and have never exoerienced anything like this.
Correction, my check engine light did come on two weeks, ago, but I was told the gas cap wasn't closed completely. Other than that, no other problems were noted.
