Once down if you accidentally hit the sun shade button it pops up but then will not retract until manually done with help of another person. If fancy extras are not going to function for long, better to leave them off and reduce cost of vehicle.
My Avalon was purchased new in 2007. I tried out all the bells and whistles, including the button that raised the rear sun shade. The button was accidentally pressed at a later time, and both times the shade went back down. The shade was never used, and my husband in 2011 accidentally hit the sun shade button instead of the rear trunk button. The shade would not go back down. I took it to the Toyota dealership, and they could not get it to go down without extended effort to manually force it down. The service guy said greasing the components in the shade might make it work, but the back seat would need to come out to do the work and it would cost about $250. If that did not work, it would need replacing at a cost of about $3500. (You cannot see to back up with the shade in the up position or I would have left it up.) Several days later, I intentionally raised the shade to see if it would now work since the service guy manually and forcefully lowered it. It still did not work. I took it back again to get it lowered, and they had to use the same manual force to lower it. The replacement cost is ridiculous. My car is very well kept and in excellent condition except for this problem. There should be a recall on these shades.

I accidently hit the sun screen button, now it had to be manually push back to see out the windows at
night, but now it has a humming sound when I put it in reverse. I don't have the money right now to have it
fixed. Toyota can't tell me before I take it in on how much it will cost to get rid of the noise. Maybe someone might have a solution.
