The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. While driving approximately 40 mph, a loud thumping noise was heard in the rear of the vehicle. The contact opened the trunk and found that the torsion bar was detached from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torsion bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that a repair would be done; however, it was not considered a recall repair. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
