Takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Avalon. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15V043000 (air bags). The part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. The manufacturer stated that they did not have any updates on the remedy since February of 2016. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Updated 04/29/16 the consumer stated there have been no new updates on the air bag. However, the ECU was replaced. Updated 05/05/16.

2004 Toyota Avalon. Consumer writes in regards to two recall notices the consumer stated it would be a 150 mile- round trip to the nearest dealer to have the recalls performed. The consumer stated there were competent Ford, GM and Chrysler automotive technicians that could perform the work if provided the parts and guidance.

2004 Toyota Avalon. Consumer writes in regards to safety recall notice concerning engine crankshaft pulley the consumer believed unnecessary repairs were made to the vehicle, prior to receiving the recall notice. The consumer experienced difficulty in turning the steering wheel, the steering was sluggish and there was a vibration. The power steering pump was replaced. The brakes, tires, and rack and pinion were also replaced.

While driving any speed, the vehicle jerked forward. This caused the consumer to rear end another vehicle. The consumer managed to pull over and shut off/restart the vehicle. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined.
