S10 appropriate handling re Toyota recent recall customer service action fm owner of 2002 Toyota Avalon involved in accident in 2004 and the side airbags did not deploy.
Airbag light on 2002 Toyota Avalon with 65000 miles was flashing and took to dealer. Diagnosed with B1141 code -side airbag sensor assembly malfunction. Cost to repair included complete replacement of the driver seat at $2000. Find this cost unreasonable and don't trust dealer that there is not a cheaper way to fix. Interesting that I had two side collisions and in either case, side airbag did not deploy. Defective airbag assembly should be replaced at no charge due to safety issue.
Email fwd fm fhwa request procedure for reporting matter re failure of side airbag to deploy the side airbag failed to deploy when the vehicle was hit on the drivers side by a driver going through a red light. Scc
