I noticed intermittently the driver's side running step bar would either not deploy when the door was open or not retract when the door was closed . I took it to Page Toyota southfield last May who said that ECU needs replacement. I did contact Toyota Hot line and explained that problem is a software issue. Toyota hotline contacted the dealer and talked to page Toyota and then told me to bring the vehicle for software reset. The charge was around $140 which Toyota agreed to pay half of it. Page at Toyota Southfield did reset the software on 06/03/21. But within 24 hrs the problem came back. I did take it to this dealer to check the problem again.
After 2 hours of wait they gave me the key back telling they will contact me within 2 days for parts needed. When I left their dealership I noticed that the Driver side step bar's motor Stopped functioning, and have no explanation from the dealer what happened. Today 06/10/21/I did get an email from the dealer (case 210602000487) reference # 21051300054t7, that cost to fix the problem is $3617.20 : 1-Side auto Step controller Ass. $341.00 2- Right Side power Step ASs $ 1560.00 3-Left Side Power Step Ass $1560 4-Labor to instal $260.00
Contacted Toyota hotline and talked to them again. For over 50 minutes they kept transferring from one senior advisor to another senior advisor until the last advisor told me that my car has 44000 mile and out warranty ..sorry... blah blah blah...
He told me if they make a recall which I believe they should because as senior like me I need the bar step's help to get inside this vehicle since its high. So its a safety issue for me not to fall. I am very much disappointed with their quality, although this is still brand new only 44000 miles on it since I bought back in 2017. Very frustrated from dealing with them.
