At about 2:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2015, while driving my 2014 Toyota 4-Runner today, the temperature outside was 85 degrees. I had the air conditioner running to cool down inside the vehicle because the humidity was terrible in southern Louisiana. All of a sudden I heard this extremely loud sound like an explosion. There were only a few cars in front of me and no overpasses around. When I opened the sunroof cover, I observed that the entire sunroof window was shattered with a large hole in the center. The glass was protruding outward like there had been an explosion inside the car.
I took the car to the Slidell, Louisiana Toyota dealership to have them look at it. They told me that glass is not covered under the warranty. They wanted to charge me over $1,000 to repair it, and I would have to wait for four days before they would have the parts to fix the sunroof. I went to a collision center to have them repair it for just under $800. I had plans to leave for home, back to Idaho on Tuesday. Those plans now have to be changed.
Something is seriously wrong with the sunroof windows of these cars. It exploded for no apparent reason, and Toyota refuses to take responsibility.
