CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

Have a 2009 4 runner. When I come to a stop sometimes you feel a clunk as if someone possibly hit you from behind. Sometimes it doesn't do it when you initially stop but then when you first start to accelerate after you stopped. Seems they fixed the issue for the 4 runner with the v8 but not the v6. Don't understand that. It's the same vehicle with the same part. This is unacceptable and toyota needs to address this issue for the v6 owners.
