CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

2008 Toyota 4 runner. Consumer writes in regards to floor mat interference recall notice. The consumer stated he did in fact experience an issue, with the accelerator jamming. Part of the reason was one of the little plastic hooks, that secured the driver's side floor mat had broken off, allowing the mat to slip forward under the accelerator. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, only to learn, there were no parts to perform the repair, they have not had any parts in a long time, and they had no idea when they would receive the parts.

Incident that took place on January 28, 2010. I own a 2008 Toyota four runner SR5 with 13 K miles, I am the original owner and no one has driven the vehicle but me. Vehicle purchased at legacy Toyota. Stopped at a traffic light; when the light changed, I placed pressure to the accelerator to drive off. Nothing happened! except a slight forward move! again I applied pressure to the accelerator! nothing happened! by this time I had rolled into the middle of the intersection. Now for the third time! again applied pressure to the accelerator and after a moment the engine revved up and began to move the vehicle rapidly forward. I released the pressure on the accelerator and briefly touched the brake, when all seemed to return to normal, February 1, 2010 report the incident as it occurred to legacy Toyota. Dealer reacted with no concerns. Updated IVOQ 03/1/6/11
