CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

I needed front brake and rotors, rear brakes pads, calipers. Since we drive in a rural area with minimal brake use I was greatly surprised to hear this problem at only 65,00 miles. I have owned other vehicles (I am 55 year old) and never had problems this soon on other brands. The calipers also needed changing and that was covered under warranty. Now I go in for 85,00 mile check up, and guess what, my rear brakes are not touching the rotors. The toyota repair company stated if we had them done right and checked by a them this would not have happened. As soon as I stated that they did the work everyone shut up They then explained that they had a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty work. Guess what is has been 14 months. Well pads are good, but now they have to clean the rotors and charge me $184. That is the cheap part, because they also found I have a bad front wheel bearings, cost to repairs $1100. Along with general tune up and other work has added another $800. I am into $3000 work on a 4 yr old vehicle with less than 90,000. I am trading this vehicle in and it will not be for a toyota. My first and last vehicle from you and that dealer/repair shop.
