CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

This problem should be a recall. My recall letter was for a floor matt issue ( the cover up ). This auto has had several intermittent electronic problems affecting the drive train while under warranty. I returned to the dealership ( where I purchased ) and reported a electrical problem with the drive train. They treated me as though I were insane but wanted money to tell me that I am insane.

If you own a 2007 4Runner.......... beware!!!!

I have been driving for 43 years. My driving abilities are way above average.

After driving the 4Runner more than 30,000 miles, I found problem that will curl your hair. It is a major design flaw(s). I only hope it does not hapen to you.

While driving in traffic, I was forced to make a panic stop. Not a good time to find your car is malfunctioning.

The problem is a combination of design errors that combine to threaten your life.

The brake and gas pedal are to close to each other. Under normal driving conditions this is not evident. However, in a panic stop situation, it can be life threatning.

The brake pedal is forced almost to the floor during a panic stop. If the foot catches the edge of the gas pedal at the same time, ( very easy to do because they are so close together ) then the gas pedal goes to the floor as well. NOW FOR THE GOOD PART! THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATES!!! IT IS NOW IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP!!!!

A software change would prevent this from happening. Appearantly your life is not worth that expense. Has your floor mat been recalled?
