CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota 4 runner. The contact stated that when she put the seats down on the rear driver side, the seat belt fell apart and the center arm rest next to that seat belt fell as well. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that repairs would have to be performed at her expense. She called the manufacturer who offered no assistance and advised her to speak with the extended warranty company who also offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The current mileage is approximately 66,000.
We were stopped in traffic in our 2006 Toyota 4runner. We were slammed into from behind by a car traveling around 45mph. Thus we slammed into the car infront of us. Our airbags did not deploy, and the passenger seatbelt did not lock up, thus causing severe injuries to the passenger. There is around $11,000 damage to our truck.
