CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

The car was originally purchased new in March of 2006. In November of 2006, with 4855 miles the original front seat assembley, drivers side, was replaced. In August of 2008 with 22463 miles this seat asembly was replaced. Now with 52135 miles this seat assembly must be replaced. Since purchasing the car Toyota has replace the seat assembly three times and it still makeing a grinding sound. Toyota's Customer Experience Center refuses to replace the assembly .This sounds like a product defect
