CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.
So this is the fifth caliper that I've replaced in 80k miles. One for each tire, plus one more for the front driver's side. Its a real pain in the ass if you don't have an impact wrench to remove the bolts with. Luckily I purchased one after the second time it happened. Bleeding the breaks isn't too bad but it's easier with two people.
First time in my life I had to replace the caliber on a disc brake system .( I do it myself) but I paid my friendly Filipino mechanic this time, his cost for the parts was lot cheaper than Toyota so worth the extra cost. I did buy the new pads at the Toyota dealer
106000 Km on my first set of pads.
The dish was 26.1 mm when the caliber was changed. Minimum recummended 24 mm
