We purchased a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek from Larry Miller Subaru in Boise Idaho, When it was due for its 3rd tire rotation it had already worn through the factory original tire (Yokahama 50,000 mile rated tire). We immediately raise concern over excessive tire wear with Larry Miller through the salesman that sold us the car. He supposedly took it up with the service manager and told us to raise a case with Subaru USA, which we did (SR #:1-8613018427) I think was the original number assigned to our complaint. After several debates back and forth we finally were told by Subaru USA to take it to Canyon Motors in Twin Falls Id (another Subaru dealer) and have it checked out. We took it to them and they said all they could do was check the alignment and if it was good we would have to pay for the check, if it was bad they would fix it under warranty. We had them check alignment and they said it was perfect.
After several more attempts to resolve the tire wear issue and having Subaru representatives tell us everything from it's our roads to it's how you drive, nothing is wrong with the car, they (Subaru USA) finally said it was probably a bad set of tires, go buy new ones we will split the cost, so we did. I also had the alignment checked at the shop that put on the tires. They showed me that one parameter on the right rear tire was out of spec but not adjustable. In the technician's opinion it was not far enough out to justify the wear. I then took it to another shop that also checked alignment with the same determination, but they went a little further and had someone get in the car and checked it again, at this point it showed to be out even further.
We have relayed all of this to Subaru and the dealer to no avail. They still refuse to attempt repair saying nothing is wrong with the car, meanwhile we have put 4500 miles on our new Hankook 100000 mile rated tires and are already down over 20% on usable tread. This would indicate the problem is still there, it's real, and it’s getting worse but they still say nothing is wrong with the car.
We love the car and want it fixed but cannot afford to be buying tires every 15000 miles and now are so fed up with Subaru's customer service we want it gone!!! We traded it in with 24000 miles on it and took a 15000 dollar loss to get rid of it but it’s gone!!
