Here it goes, the 2017 Manual Limited WRX had a squealing noise from the release bearing that was getting worse. Brought it in initially and there was some resistance by the dealer but luckily one of the techs had the same problem with his car so they took it in. It was in the shop for two days and they replaced the clutch kit which includes bearing, flywheel, cover, disk, spring, fork plus whatever is in their kit. So, I got a brand new clutch.

Here is where it gets interesting/scary, picked up the car from the dealer. Was driving back from work THE VERY NEXT DAY on the FREEWAY and it popped. That's right it popped as I was coming to the left lane which is the fast lane in the Interstate 380 in order to get to 280 South. The only thing that I had done was push the gas pedal when the car was in 4th gear to get some speed from the 50s to 64mph at about 4500 RPM. Luckily I had some distance between myself and the guy behind me going uphill or it could have been nasty.

So, the car is back in the shop and I am pretty sure that whatever kit they installed was defective or the installation was not done correctly. They have not called me yet but at this time I do not recommend a WRX to anyone. It has transmission issue

Update from Feb 10, 2019: So, this would second time the transmission has issues. The car was initially in the shop at Carlsen Subaru in Redwood city, California on Tuesday to replace the Clutch kit due to faulty clutch release bearing. Picked it on Wednesday Feb 6th and everything had been replaced(clutch kit, bearing, flywheel, disk, cover, etc.). On Thursday Feb 6th something popped in the transmission on the freeway!! I have had manual transmission for decades and this is the most unusual and scary experience I have had by far.

Update from Feb 12, 2019: picked it up yesterday. Was informed that the intercooler hose had not been connected properly why they were putting the car together after replacing the clutch components! So, that was the popping noise on the freeway and loss of power. They reconnected the hose and now I have the car back! Stay tuned....
