Like thousands of Subaru owners of cars prior to 2020, the screen is defective and delaminates causing ghost touches of the underlying buttons. You get random beeps, the touch screen does not work at all, and it is worthless as a radio or carplay or navigation or XM radio: in other words useless. So I turn it off to stop the distracting noises it makes. Subaru refuses to recognize this defect or do anything about it for this model year of 2019. They replaced the radios in prior model years due to these same defects.
I just got a notice to replace the starlink unit under warranty but that is worthless without a radio. It worked perfectly when I bought the car last year (2023). I think Subaru is being sued for this now. From the prior ones in 2018 vehicles thee is some question as to whether replacement even works out since the replacements are apparently as bad as the original radios based on complaints. Subaru needs to replace these radios under warranty and with the newer units they put in 2020 and later vehicles, not remanufacture defective units. My local Subaru dealer won't return my calls now even though I have a warranty to pay for a new radio. He mumbled something abut not working for less than the retail labor rates: that's funny because it's my understanding that manufactures don't even pay their retail rates. Other than this, I love the car.
