My wife had the very same issue in her 2016 Outback. We pulled into a drive thru and stopped as a car in front of us had made a mess of the turn. They put their car in reverse so we reversed a few feet to give them some room.
We sat there for about 30 seconds in park and my wife then put our car in drive. She hit the gas and it shot backwards almost hitting a car behind us before she hit the brakes. We both got a huge shock as did the person behind us.
There's no question that our car was in drive when this happened. We took it to the local dealership and got the usual runaround about how it behaved fine on a test drive and how nothing could be found amiss.
I did a search online and found three other owners who had the same problem. Subaru needs to get on top of this before someone gets hurt.
