I work in the health care field. I drive 57,000 miles a year to my employer (OSF Saint Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois). It is 66 miles one way on some of the most snow-packed roads in the winter you can find. I am semi-retired and this vehicle is my only car. The Subaru seized up in the middle of Farmington, Illinois and I had it towed to the Green Subaru Dealer in Springfield, Illinois ($100.00). After they had it for a full day they told me that a new transmission would be $7000.00 and change. Never did anyone mention that Subaru was covering any of the cost of a defective cvt transmission.
I had the vehicle towed back to my home, another $100.00 and another day off of work. Took it to a local mechanic and he replaced the transmission, and when I was on the way home after having a rental car for seven days ($800.00) that second one failed and locked up before I arrived home (in a snow freaking storm). Then I had it towed back to the mechanic, and had to call out to work. I also had to find a ride into town the next day to rent another car for 10 days.
They fixed it with another transmission, but the warning light kept coming on, as apparently they had "too much fluid" in the transmission. I am not sure if there is a way to be reimbursed for this, but I have all the receipts. I am still driving the Subaru and it now has 206,000 miles on it. I am very happy with the vehicle and will soon purchase a new Subaru hopefully for my wife. We are a Subaru family, regardless of issues.
