I have a top of the line 2014 Subaru Outback. I thought the car was in perfect shape. I have had it meticulously maintained and hit the 100k mile mark about 2 months ago. I had the 100k service done. In the middle of a ten hour trip I noticed the emergency brake come on (I was going 70 mph in the passing lane). The noise was unbelievable. I pulled to the side of the highway and the car was dead - brake light still on. After towing and spending the night in a tiny town in western PA I was told the transmission was gone. No Subaru dealers around! AAA had towed it to a little auto body shop in the middle of nowhere. I got on the phone and called Subaru dealers including mine in Charlottesville, VA - all 3 said between $7,000-$9,000 !!!
I rented a car and completed my trip. I've been emailing a person in the corporate office who says I'm over the warranty (by 2,500 miles). He also says there are gaps in the service . There are absolutely no gaps!! Not all of the servicing was done at the dealer. I'm so frustrated!! I'm paying for a rental car so I can go to work. The car is 5 hours away and is going to have a used transmission with more miles than the original installed in my car. Subaru will only install a new transmission - the price is prohibitive.
This is my 4th Subaru and I buy them because they last. Help! I expect them to last way longer than 100K miles. Who can I contact?
