CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Outback has a problem with excessive oil consumption.

A class action lawsuit is pending that alleges Subaru's "FB" engine has defective piston rings which causes oil to leak past the rings & burn up at an excessive rate. More information about the class action is available here.

I thought I was the only one w/ this 'wandering' problem until I found this web site. I've been trying to get my dealer to acknowledge there's a problem for the past 2 years but they just keep telling me everything is operating w/in specifications. Though I finally had a test drive with the mechanic recently and he did notice the central steering column was not 'centered' (ie. if I lined up the steering wheel to what I would consider 'center' the wheels would be turned off center). If anyone has found a solution or even an acknowledgement that this is a real problem from Subaru I'd love to hear about it.

-2010+ Legacy and Outback are made in Lafayette, Indiana -2013+ New FB25 Engine 2nd Gen CVT Retuned Suspension -New Impreza Forester have Electric Steering Outback has Hydraulic Steering -I test drove couple other 2013 Outback 2.5i same Firm Steering -I test drove a 2013 Outback 3.6R (Steering feels normal much softer) -Check Steering Effort should not have more than 6.6 lb (Measured with scale) -Some owners had success readjusting their Gearbox Backlash to less than 3 lbs

-Steering Column Recall for 2013 Legacy/Outbacks manufactured from 2012 Feb15-Jun15 (I don't think this will fix the Wandering issue) -You can also file a online compliant with Safercar.gov at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/Vehicl...nt/index.xhtml

I have owned over 20+ cars ranging from 4Runners, S2000, to Lancer EVO. My 2013 Outback is by far the hardest car to steer on the highway. If dealer or independent can't fix it, I might trade it in for another 2014 Forester (Made in Japan).

I already own a 2014 Forester XT. The steering feel is 1000 times better than my 2013 Outback 2.5i Premium.
