Bought the car used, but in good condition to the eye, from the Subaru dealer. There were 33,000 miles on it. A couple years after my purchase the power steering went out and I had it fixed by an independent shop. On occasions the brake, ABS, check engine lights would come on. For a while they went off when I restarted the car. Then they began staying on, regardless of what I did. I had a shop look at them and they plugged something in under the dash and it stopped the lights. A month or so later they were on again. About 2 months ago the AT oil temp light came on and I called a transmission shop. They ran a diagnostic and said they felt it was the sensor because there was nothing wrong with the Automatic Transmission oil temp.
The car has 162,000 miles on it (all highway) and I am told (by the dealership and by an independent shop) it needs a new transmission, that is what is causing all the lights to be on. So this tells me Subaru installed a transmission with a 6 year life expectancy and I'm supposed to replace this in order to have cruise control and sensor lights that are actually operative. In honesty I think it's a huge rip off. It will cost $8,000 to replace this transmission.
I am here to say Subaru sucks! I'll never buy another one and I would never recommend the brand to anyone. UGH!!! This car is terrible!
