I have a 2008 Subaru Outback. Two months ago I received notice of the passenger airbag recall. I called immediately and got on the local dealerships wait list. Last week I called the dealer. I am number 300 on their airbag recall wait list. They said they have been receiving, quote, "less than 15 airbags per month". At that rate it will be the end of 2017 before this will be repaired. The dealer confirmed that it is "not safe for a passenger to occupy that seat". I asked if the dealership would disconnect this airbag so I could use the passenger seat until the part arrives. I was told they are "not allowed to disable auto safety devices". This leaves me with no (safe) useable passenger seat for nearly 2 years. Why can't this defective part be disabled until a replacement is available?
