I am a ASE and VOLVO Master Tech of over 23 years. I called Subaru Of North America requesting goodwill warranty. They judged the case and said no due to not being a loyal dealership patron. I received the car from my mothers estate. She had it serviced at her local dealership until the hood flew open. They never lubed the hood catch and safety catch. The Dealership accepted blame and repaired the car. She stopped going to the dealer.
If anyone else had this happen (as the Subaru tech said "we use to replace those all the time") call Subaru direct and talk to Ellie the chief Bitch at 1-800-782-2783 prompt 2 ext. 119238. Remember this car only has 26,469 miles on it, Really Driven By an Old Lady 1500 miles a year. Garaged, Looks Showroom New. Ellie had nothing to say about the low miles and condition and the failure of a harmonic Balancer falling apart at the poor rubber bonding or the frequency of the part number failing and being replaced with another part number.
I was happy when the parts were in stock at my local Auto Zone. In 23 years at Volvo I have only seen 1 fail. For Auto zone to have the part in stock tells me it is a frequent repair but at 26K I feel Subaru should have picked up the tab The same failure happened to my housemates 2004 Outback 3 years ago. I don't know how many miles on his car at the time. I would love for everyone who had this happen to them call Ellie at Subaru and make life tough for her. I also filed a NTHSA complaint.
