This low mileage, well-taken care of, 1-owner car with regular, documented maintenance at Subaru dealerships simply had a bad bearing inside the transmission. Eventually it would have failed but the grinding noice was enough to call attention to the problem. Subaru Outbacks usually go for well over 100k and even 150k miles so for this one to need a trans rebuild was very disappointing.
