I am a very big fan of Subaru as they are a very dependable car in all weather and situations. I have heard of all the Takata air bag problems in the media lately and it drew my attention. I decided to take a look and see if my 2002 Subaru outback wagon was a victim of this recall. It turns out that it is not. However, with that being said the 2003 outback is affected with a defective affective air bag. Most people are worried that they have the same air bag in their 2002 as the 2003 model. I have done a fair amount of research on this subject and have found some reassuring information. Still to my knowledge the 2002 outback is not affected with a takata air bag.( I constantly keep on eye on it though) I recommend joining subarus official website by becoming a member at no charge and putting in your vehicles VIN number. Subaru will keep you on record and up to date as well as contact you immediately if your car is a victim of any past, present or new recall that has not been serviced on your car. As for the 2003 outback, the only airbag that is affected in that car that I could find was the side airbags either in the seat or "curtain" airbags. DO NOT WAIT TO HAVE YOUR CAR FIXED!!! Especially a takata airbag recall. Recalls are serious and are free of charge as they are done at the nearest dealer. RECALLS CAN LEAD TO DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX YOURSELF. USE CAUTION WITH YOUR VEHICLE IF A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED YET.
