When switching between accelerating & decelerating, the whole car jerks. This is normal in the lower gears in most cars I've driven, but with my Outback the transitions are really rough even in 4th & 5th gears - the whole car surges & jerks because there is so much free play in the drivetrain. Has been a problem since I bought it (40k miles). Very annoying, especially to passengers who don't have a steering wheel to hold on to.
