Purchased a new Subaru Legacy 2018. Within only a few days and with only 70 miles on the odometer, squirrels had eaten through the wiring for the airbag system. Warning lights flashed on the dash. Immediately took it up to the dealer--and made to feel like a criminal from the service manager--and with the assistance of our insurance company and my wife's legal expertise (attorney) they ultimately covered the damages. Similar stories rank the cost around $2500.00. The dealership covered it this time with a note that any future damage would not be covered again.
Apparently a problem with soy-based wiring being used. Lived at this address for 35 years without any damage to numerous vehicles we have owned.
Now I have cages, pepper, owls, and internal sound devices being used. Concerned that when we leave the area--park it, for example, at the local mall or airport, damage may still occur.
We purchased a car with high safety ratings only to seek a major repair within only a few days. Never again.
