I traded a 2013 Subaru Impreza for the 2014 Legacy because of an acceleration hesitation issue. From a complete stop or from a yield, I stepped on the accelerator to make it across a hwy or busy street and the car had very little power (enough to roll on the path of a speeding car). There is a 2 - 5 second delay even with the accelerator floored.
My 2013 Impreza had the problem and the mechanic could not reproduce. I traded the car in since I was almost hit - I threw my car in reverse and avoided a car going around 60mph.
My 2014 Legacy has had two episodes of acceleration hesitation and my family and I were almost hit trying to get across a hwy when this happened and another time when I was leaving my neighborhood.
The Subaru mechanic tried several times and even kept the car a few days, but could not reproduce (took the car to the dealer four times).
I contacted Subaru of America, but they told me that they stand behind their warranty and would address the issue once reproduced by the mechanic.
Since this is an intermittent issue, it would be almost impossible to reproduce on demand. Subaru of America did not care to have the mechanic attach any diagnostic capture tool in the event that the issue was reproduced. It would be next to impossible to find a root cause without diagnostic data.
I mentioned to Subaru of America about this same issue that a lot other owners are complaining about and left without a fix. I also mentioned about some Subaru owners that were involved in accidents because of this issue (found forum posts) and they did not want to hear about it.
This is a safety related issue and it is not being addressed. Please also submit your complaint to NHTSA here: www.safercar.gov.
I was thinking of purchasing the PLX Kiwi 2 (OBD-II and iphone app) to capture live engine performance data in the event that the issue comes up again (as proof of the issue - doubt that SOA will acknowledge it)
I love my car, but this issue is a deal breaker. It is unfortunate that Subaru of America does not have a better protocol to try to address such safety concerns.
