I just purchased a used 2012 Nissan Murano in August of 2019, and a month later started making a ticking noise which could be heard at low rpm/low speed when less road and engine noise. The vehicle only had 58,000 kms on it and was regularly serviced by previous owner, and in mint condition. A ticking noise began getting louder so I took it in to dealer in October 2019, and they put it up on the hoist and confirmed the noise is coming from the CVT transmission. The dealer recommends replacing the transmission, but is stating it is no longer under warranty, and there is nothing else they can do.
This is extremely frustrating as they cannot diagnose or repair the transmission even though it has not catastrophically failed. So I'm supposed to either pay an additional $7,000 CAD to replace a transmission that hasn't yet failed, and that I'm trying to be proactive about! So that the replaced transmission can start accumulating miles and have an early failure as well! This is my second Murano and will be my last if Nissan does not step up to the plate and do something for its customers.
