I have a 2009 WRX meticulously maintained. Well let's just say at 74,000 miles it spun a rod bearing. Extended warranty went up at about 72,000 what a shame, right? It's just a shame. Thought I was getting a decent vehicle, not so much. I'll have to take my business elsewhere. We're the one's that make them who they are. How many people with this year car have had this problem? I know it just not me

Impreza WRX 2.5L F4

My WRX had a spun rod bearing issue for a second time, requiring the motor being rebuilt. The first occurrence happened with the first owner at just ~27,000 miles, which was covered under warranty at the time and replaced for free. This will be the second occurrence.

The sound produces a a very worrisome knock in the motor that is loud and distinctive compared to a 'Not Enough Oil' knock (which I have been running 5W40 as recommended by many Subaru loyalists who believe the 5W30 is just not capable enough to handle the Boxer engine.)

I've taken my WRX to a Subaru Specialist in Maryland who is rebuilding it for me, this time with aftermarket forged internals to prevent this from ever happening again. He quoted me both ways for OEM and Forged rebuilds and it was roughly the same; within just a few $100's, so at that kind of money it wasn't really even a hesitation to get aftermarket parts.
