I go to put fuel in my 2018 subaru impreza, which only has 1050 miles on it, and this is only the 4th time putting fuel in it, and I pull the fuel door popper, go outside to open the door, and it doesn’t open. So I pop it open again, still won’t open. So I take an old gift card and start digging ice out of the gap between the fuel door and the car. Snow gets into this gap, and it melts and freezes, leaving the fuel door frozen shut. So what I need to do is pull the fuel door popper all the way up, stuff my glove under there to hold it open, then take a screwdriver to pry open the fuel door, revealing large chunks of ice all inside the filling area. I tried to clear out as much ice as possible to avoid having the same issue again, but a week later I go to fill it up again, and the exact same issue happened.
This is unnacceptable in a new car with hardly over 1k miles. They need to either make the fuel door popper a lot more forceful to break free from the ice, or prevent ice from being able to get in there.
